Empowering Through Farm-Based Learning

Our Vision – “  We GROW people, to ensure everyone achieves their full potential and leaves us happier and stronger.”

At Able Hands Together, we understand that everyone has something  to bring to our community. Since 2015, our farm has been a calm, safe place where you can thrive amongst your friends. We know that traditional environments don’t always work for everyone, so we’ve created something different. Our 4-acre farm is designed around you – your needs, your pace, your interests, and your way of experiencing the world.

We focus on helping you discover your strengths, build confidence, and develop the skills that matter to you. Whether you’re someone who finds comfort in routine, needs time to process, learns better through doing rather than sitting, or simply hasn’t found the right environment yet – this could be your place.

You matter exactly as you are, and we’re here to help you thrive in your own unique way.

Our Transitions

What is a transition from children’s services to adult services?

Transition describes the move from children’s services to adult services. This can involve leaving school, transferring from children and family services to adult social care services, and/or transferring from paediatric services to adult health services.

A good transition requires time and the commitment from both sides. Strengthen and support learning, well-being and relationships.

Working together is essential

We work together with the person, their family, care support, health, and social care professionals. We tailor the transition to support what matters to them.

Transition can increase demands on the person, socially, environmentally, and practically. So, it is crucial to get it right. We encourage good transition through making connections

Jen:  I love the farm. It’s my favourite place. I go two days a week to the farm, I love to learn lots of skills and jobs around the farm……they [staff] are very supportive and helpful, they are amazing…..”

We Say: "Co Farmers"

Being a Co-Farmer means you’re not just visiting our farm – your part of it. This program is perfect if you’re an adult who wants to do work that matters, be around animals, and be part of a community. You don’t need any experience with farming or animals; you just need to be yourself and be willing to learn alongside others.

Your days might involve feeding our friendly animals (we have ducks, chickens, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, alpacas, and sheep), helping in the garden, or working on projects that interest you. The best part? You can focus on what you enjoy most.

Some Co-Farmers love the quiet, repetitive tasks like feeding routines. Others prefer the problem-solving aspects of animal care, gardening or creativity and art. We match activities to what works for your brain and enjoyment, not the other way around.
